Would you like to understand more about your computer? Many people are afraid of the computer and the Internet. They see it as being too complicated to understand and sometimes even dangerous!

Parents need to know more about the household computer than their children. Everything is on the Internet, just like everything is in any large city in America. Around children, Internet access must be treated as an adult supervised toy!

On this site we make everything seem simple by breaking the computer down into three (3) areas and making it easier to understand.

The main part of the computer is called the Central Processing Unit or CPU. The monitor, keyboard, mouse and printer are all connected to this core part, the CPU is like the brain of the computer.

The easy way to look at it is to think of the CPU as a filing cabinet, like the old fashion way of organizing files. The computer (CPU) is just a miniature filing cabinet that stores and manipulates different types of files.

It is as easy as 1, 2, 3!!!

There are three (3) types of files: 1) text files, 2) sound files and 3) picture files.

There are three (3) things you can do with files: 1) create files, 2) edit files and 3) save files.

There are three (3) places to store files: 1) floppy disc, 2) hard disc and 3) CD or DVD disc.

There are different programs that work with the three (3) basic files and there are several types of each of the three (3) basic files, but really the computer itself is as easy as 1, 2, 3!!!

Size of Computer Storage Devices

Files stored on a disc or other computer storage device, are called Bytes and the size of a storage disc is measured by the number of Bytes that can be stored on the device.

1 = Byte - B - One Single Byte

1,000 = Kilo Byte - KB - Thousand Bytes

1,000,000 = Mega Byte - MB - Million Bytes

1,000,000,000 = Giga Byte - GB - Billion Bytes

1,000,000,000,000 = Tera Byte - TB - Trillion Bytes

There you go, it is as easy as 1, 2, 3!!!
